I went to see the Da Vinci Code last night. I didn't have much time to post, and I'd quite like to. However I had to go on a fairly long drive, so I waffled about it to my phone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVEuk8221DE

Videoblogging on a LG U8380

I thought I would try videoblogging so I tied my new mobile to the steering wheel of the car (with one of those annoying red elastic bands that the posties can't be botherered to pick up). The phone is an LG U8380, it is a great phone. I got it from themobileoutlet.com. They do a 12 month contract on three and they refund the entire phone rental (you have to send your bills in to claim it).

Easter Break

Easter Break We made our annual pilgrimage to the east coast for the week running up to easter. Spring Harvest is a conference that takes over the Butlins Holiday camp in Skegness (and Minehead). We like it, the kids love it. You can be at meetings from dawn to dusk, but we like to chill out a bit and not do everything. I always try and organise my holidays so that I go away on a Monday so that I am not faced with leading services when I return. Easter is always different, the good thing about returning to conduct Resurrection Sunday service is that I have some familiarity with the theme! The services were packed with action today. It was good to see so many people enjoying themselves. I feel refreshed and ready to get back into the week ahead.

Talking about technology

I just got back from talking to a year six class at Skerton St. Lukes about how I use Information Technology in my work. I was there at David's invitation. Once we got over the fact that I don't sit looking glum from one Sunday to the next, but that I can be quite busy, the conversation was great. I particularly enjoyed playing Alice singing "When Goldilocks went to the house of the bears" and talking about why we played a clip from the Incredibles in a church service. The other topics we touched on were:
  • Using Mobile Phones.
  • Using E.mail, VOIP and Instant Messaging.
  • Blogging
  • The point of RSS feeds.
I enjoyed my visit, I hope they enjoyed having me.

Thoughts about pursuing an MPhil.

I have started pursuing the idea of further organised study and have started another blog in order to store my notes and thoughts as I work towards it. I decided not to swamp this blog with it because this one is more like a personal diary. So now I have three blogs:
  1. This one, which contains my ramblings about me, my family, my home, my work and my hobbies.
  2. Brave or Foolish, which contains my developing talk notes and theological perspectives.
  3. study.graham.doel.org, which contains my notes as I work towards an MPhil.

Life in the fast lane.

  • Alice had her fourth birthday.
I suspect I'll wake up soon and realise I'm in my 40's (not that there is anything wrong with being in your forties) with a house full of teenagers. Isn't it funny how time passes so quickly.
  • Libby (16 months) pulled my laptop off a chair.
There is a couple of big cracks in the case and the network socket doesn't work. I access wirelessly via church at the moment. My wireless access port at home is broken and being fixed or replaced. Other than that it is still working fine, amazing considering this is it's second brush with death. Last time I had to take it to pieces and glue the power socket back together. Some keys still don't work after I spilled coffee on the keyboard. Have you ever wondered why I don't use question marks. Like I say, it is quite an amazing machine, surviving abuse by the first and second generation!
  • The house has subsidence.
It could be worse, at least we are insured for that! More on another day.
  • I am really enjoying my work.
Working for churches is not without its problems, but then no job is. The preaching experiment seems to be going well. If your interested you can read about it on my religious blog. http://bible.graham.doel.org/2005/10/20/ reflections_on_preaching_and_current_experiment
  • The network at church is finally up and running.
After several lunch time meetings with Matt we have a functioning network with an old PC working as a a firewall and a content filter. The content filter can be a bit verocious for example if I told you that it blocked p* o*rn it would block this post. Our main aim is to offer confidence to the youth leaders. They can let the kids use the copmputers without the fear of the computers being flooded with photos of pop stars in compromising attire! We have used smoothwall and dans gaurdian for the project.
